Through the first decade since its founding in 2014, Walloon Writers Review has provided a safe harbor where writers and photographers celebrate the sites and sounds of Northern Michigan.  Through fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and photography, contributors continue to highlight the river bends and hilltops, as well as the all the places in between, that mark this region as eternal.

As Walloon Writers Review embarks on our second decade, we seek both to build on this strong foundation, while also reimagining how the landscape of Northern Michigan continues to inspire and to influence writers and photographers.

Walloon Writers review welcomes creative writers and nature photographers, whether seasoned or new, who demonstrate th emany ways these feeling and these memories of the region forever impact our art.  - Glen Young

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS WALLOON WRITERS REVIEW NINTH EDITION begins July 15-August 30, 2024

For this new edition, we invite writers and photographers to embark on a journey through the wonders of the region, both the seen and the unseen. 

Please share your original short stories (4,000 words or less), poetry, other forms of creative writing, and nature photography for consideration. Walloon Writers Review Ninth Edition will be edited by Jennifer Huder and Glen Young. The publication will be offered in print and made available through independent booksellers, as well as online options.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

While you do not have to be a resident of Northern Michigan or the Upper Peninsula, your work must be reflective of your personal experience within this region.

Walloon Writers Review  is an independent publication and charges a reading fee of $6.00 per submission. In an effort to include as many contributors as possible, we limit submissions to two submissions for consideration.*

We are unfortunately unable to provide feedback on your submission. Please watch your email for acknowledgment of receipt of your submission and other communications from Walloon Writers Review regarding this edition. We always welcome new voices, wherever you are in your craft. Please send your best.

If your submission is accepted, you retain North American Rights to your work. You are giving permission to Walloon Writers Review to publish it in Walloon Writers Review Ninth Edition.  

We prefer to publish original material due to the regional nature of this publication, however, submissions that have already been published in another publication are accepted, however, you will need to contact the previous publication for permissions and acknowledgment requirements. 

Simultaneous Submissions:  Please note that you have ten (10) days from acceptance to withdraw your accepted piece if simultaneously submitted and accepted elsewhere.

*Accompanying photography as part of your poetry or story? Please email the photography file separately to:  editor@walloonwriters.com and list the Title of the written portion of the submission in the Subject line. We are unable to overlay text onto photography. If your photography is taken by someone else or unrelated to the writing, we require it to be an independent submission. Editors note: We can not guarantee that accompanying photography with your writing will be accepted, regardless of the status of the written submission.
